The most popular US gold coins from the era of the gold standard are the four denominations of the US Eagle. The US Eagle denomination was introduced in 1795 and expanded once, in 1849. The series included the $10 Eagle alongside the $5 Half Eagle, $2.50 Quarter Eagle, and the $20 Double Eagle. Provident Metals currently has Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins available to you for purchase online in certified condition.
Highlights:
When you purchase a Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin online in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that has been certified Mint State 65. The PCGS or NGC issued this grade because the coins have above-average, attractive mint luster with only light, scattered contact marks, small patches of hairlines, and light scuff marks on only the highest points of relief.
Please note that Provident Metals will select your coins at random once your payment has cleared. While all available coins are Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagles, we cannot guarantee a date mark in advance, nor can we guarantee whether the coin you receive has PCGS or NGC labels. If you buy several, you may get coins with matching dates and labels.
Obverse
The obverse of the Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin comes with a left-profile depiction of Lady Liberty. This bust of Liberty was created in 1838 by Christian Gobrecht. It depicts Liberty in left-profile relief wearing the coronet crown with the word LIBERTY inscribed on it. There is a ring of 13 stars with a date mark at the bottom.
Reverse
On the reverse side of Pre-33 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins is an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This depiction shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield on its chest, the arrows of war in one talon, and the olive branch of peace in the other. Inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FIVE D. Coins dated after 1866 have a banner above the eagle with an inscription of IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
The Liberty Head Eagles were available from 1838 to 1907, with Half and Quarter Eagles featuring this design from 1839 to 1907. Christian Gobrecht created the designs for this series in 1838 and would later serve as the 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1840 to 1844.
