The Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin is among the most popular silver bullion coins in the world, really only rivaled by the American Eagle Silver Coin. However, some find these coins more intriguing due to their higher purity and state-of-the-art security features. Learn more about these iconic coins, right here at Provident Metals.
The popular coin program debuted in 1988 and was issued by the Canadian government and produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. While there were other silver bullion coins on the market before the Maple Leaf, the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin was among the first to have a purity of .9999 silver.
The series was introduced in 1988 and has released new coins annually ever since. The series only releases coins in a 1 oz weight with every silver coin having a purity of at least .9999 with a face value of $5 (CAD).
Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coins are available in several unique packaging options. Individual orders will arrive in protective plastic flips. For larger orders, two bulk options are also available. For quantities of 25, coins will arrive in mint-sealed tubes from the RCM. Monster Boxes of 500 coins are also available. These boxes contain 20 tubes of 25 coins each.

The series is extremely diverse as the RCM is constantly releasing special variations and editions of these coins, serving as collectibles. While most mints rely on proof, reverse proof, or burnished strikes annually, the RCM uses privy marks and other variations to set this series apart. Some popular options are the following:
The RCM released several security features in 2014 for the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin. Among these new security features are radial lines on the obverse and reverse fields. These lines reflect light allowing for the counterfeiting of these coins to be much more difficult.
These coins are also micro-engraved with a privy mark on the reverse, beneath the overall design. These security features are now a part of every release.
