  • South Korean Silver Rounds at Provident Metals

KOMSCO is closely associated with the Bank of Korea as they are the sole currency manufacturer for South Korea. However, as of 2017, KOMSCO began producing silver and gold bullion for investors. Learn more about these South Korean Silver Rounds from KOMSCO, right here at Provident Metals.

    About KOMSCO

The history of KOMSCO is intriguing as they were founded through a full investment from the National Treasure of South Korea under a law that was enacted in 1951. Today, they are the sole currency manufacturer for the Republic of Korea. They operate under the direct control of the government in Seoul. However, they also create extremely popular bullion medals and medallions for investors and collectors.

    Chiwoo Cheonwang Series

KOMSCO’s most well-known series is their Chiwoo Cheonwang collection of medals. This series debuted in 2016 with just a 1 Troy oz weight. These medals display unique images of Chiwoo Cheonwang, the God of War in Asian mythology.

These medals contain .999 pure silver and feature new images of Chiwoo Cheonwang on the reverse with every release. The obverse of these medals showcases the Doggaebi shield, a shield associated with the god of war, and a popular image in Asian culture to rid homes of evil spirits.

These medals, unlike most Silver Rounds, have a mintage cap with each new issue.

    • 2016: 30,000
    • 2017: 50,000
    • 2018: 45,000
    • 2019: 33,000
    • 2020: 33,000
    • 2021: 40,000
    • 2022: 30,000
    • 2023: 30,000
    • 2024: 30,000

Proof medals have also been released annually since 2016. From 2017 to 2019 a 1/2 oz option was also made available. In 2018, a 2 oz medal and a 10 oz medal were made available. Every year going forward, a 10 oz medal has also been issued in this series.

    Zi:Sin Series

The Zi:Sin Series is a planned 12-medal series that will depict the Twelve Guardians from Korean culture. These releases coincide with the Chinese zodiac as each guardian relates to one of the 12 animals.

This series features the following guardians.

    • 2017: Gallus – Year of the Rooster
    • 2018: Canis – Year of the Dog
    • 2019: Scofra – Year of the Pig
    • 2020: Rattus – Year of the Rat
    • 2021: Taurus – Year of the Ox
    • 2022: Tigris – Year of the Tiger
    • 2023: Lepus – Year of the Rabbit
    • 2024: Draco – Year of the Dragon
    • 2025: Ophidia – Year of the Snake
    • 2026: Equus – Year of the Horse
    • 2027: Ovis – Year of the Goat
    • 2028: Pithecus – Year of the Monkey

    Tiger Medals

Another popular choice is their line of Tiger medallions. These medallions are released annually in gold and silver options. These medallions are similar to the Chiwoo Cheonwang series as these medallions always showcase images of tigers, however, the images change with every new release.

    KOMSCO Stackers

Stackers have the same design on the obverse and the reverse. However, one side is domed, allowing you to stack multiples on top of one another. When browsing our South Korean Silver Rounds, you’ll notice that KOMSCO makes a few different stackers.

Their 2 oz Silver Korean Peninsula Stacker shows the Korean peninsula on both sides. Meanwhile, they also offer stackers in their Chess Crown Series, with the pawn piece being available at Provident Metals.
