Obverse

On the obverse side of Pre-33 $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle Gold Coins is a depiction of an indigenous figure in left-profile relief. Created in 1908 by Bela Lyon Pratt, the design shown here features an indigenous tribal figure with a full headdress on. Inscriptions include 13 stars around the figure, Liberty above, and a date mark below.

Reverse

The reverse face of Pre-33 $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle Gold Coins includes a design showcasing the American bald eagle at rest. The eagle rests with its wings at its sides on a sheaf of arrows. The sheaf is wrapped in an olive branch. Inscriptions on this side read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and 2 1/2 Dollars.

History

The Quarter Eagle Gold Coin from the United States Mint was produced from 1796 to 1929 with a total of four different designs. The original image was the Capped Bust, followed by a Classic Head design of Liberty. The Liberty Coronet was the longest-running and most popular, but the Indian Head design was the only one in American coining history to feature an incuse design element with sunken features.
