The Gold Eagle is a term that has been used to describe American coinage for more than two centuries. The modern bullion coins are referred to as the American Eagle Gold Series to avoid confusion with the previously issued Gold Eagle circulation coins. The centerpiece of the Gold Eagle denominations was the $10 (USD) coin. Right now, you can buy certified Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of a Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coin through this product listing, you receive a coin with a Mint State 62 certification. Coins in this condition typically exhibit no wear, but have an average to below-average strike with numerous marks and/or hairlines present on the surface of the coin. The coins in this listing have been graded Mint State 62 by either the Professional Coin Grading Service or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
Obverse
On the obverse side of $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coins is the left-profile image of Lady Liberty. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this bust of Liberty captures her figure wearing an indigenous tribal headdress instead of a crown of any kind. There are 13 stars engraved above the head of Liberty in the design, with the date mark engraved below.
Reverse
The reverse face of the Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Gold Coin also features a design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Here, an American bald eagle is depicted at rest with its wings by its side as it clutches a sheaf of arrows in its talons that are wrapped in an olive branch. Inscriptions on these coins include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Ten Dollars for 1907 date marks. All other coins issued from 1908 to 1933 in this series also feature In God We Trust on this side.
History
The US Eagle Series from the United States Mint contained the four largest denominations in US coinage from 1792 to 1933. The coins were centered on the Gold Eagle at $10 (USD), with the Double Eagle at $20 (USD), the Half Eagle at $5 (USD), and the Quarter Eagle at $2.50 (USD). The $10 Gold Eagle was the longest-running of the series.
