Obverse
The obverse of Peace Dollar Silver Coins comes with an image of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. The design shows Liberty with a towering, spiked crown on her head. She is surrounded by inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date mark of the individual coin.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the Peace Dollar Silver Coin is a depiction of the American bald eagle at rest. The eagle is shown on a perch with its wings at rest as it looks out toward the rising sun in the distance. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and PEACE.
History
The Pittman Act in 1918 authorized the resumption of silver dollar coining in the United States. Though just 1 million Peace Dollars were issued in 1921, coining accelerated in 1922 during its first full year of production. More than 50 million coins were struck and issued in 1922 alone, but production would later taper off slightly with each passing year as the requirements of the Pittman Act were met by the renewed coining.
