From 1878 to 1904, and again for a single year in 1912, the United States silver dollar featured the image of Lady Liberty created by George T. Morgan. Known as the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin, this silver dollar series remains incredibly popular in the 21st century among silver coin collectors. Right now, you can buy certified Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Sets online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Set in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a set of five coins that have Mint State 64 certifications. Each coin is individually housed in a PCGS plastic slab. Coins with an MS64 certification have light, scattered marks throughout the coin, with some in the primary focal field. A few scattered hairlines or a small patch of hairlines may also be present. Overall, the coins have at least an average amount of mint luster remaining.
Please keep in mind that Provident Metals cannot guarantee the date marks in your set. We can guarantee that each coin is graded MS64 and that your set will not come with any duplicate date marks.
Obverse
Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in this 5-coin set. This effigy of Lady Liberty was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan. In this left-profile portrait, Liberty wears a coronet with LIBERTY engraved on it, a laurel wreath crown, and a Phrygian cap. The design element includes 13 stars, a date mark, and an inscription of E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States is found in the reverse design of the coins in the Morgan Dollar Silver 5-Coin Set. The heraldic eagle offers a front-facing bald eagle clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. There is a laurel wreath framing the eagle with inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
George T. Morgan was in his first year as an Assistant Engraver at the United States Mint when he created the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin design. When the US Mint later reintroduced the Morgan Dollar after World War I, Morgan was serving as the 7th Chief Engraver of the US Mint and had to recreate his silver dollar dies from scratch to facilitate new coining. Though none of the 1921 coins are available in this set, this is a neat piece of history attached to the coin series.
