History

The ancient myths of Heimdall as handed down to the authors of works like the Poetic and Prose Eddas depicted him as uniting the virtues of wisdom, strength, steadfast purpose, and reliability. Both a guardian and an advisor, he survey the rainbow bridge of the Bifrost from his watchtower of Himinbjorg, a vantage point from which he could see approaching threats to the divine home of Asgard from anywhere in the world. He was both a strong arm and a canny counselor to the gods and one of the primary enemies of their deadly foe, Loki.
