The United States Mint is making history in its American Eagle Silver Coin Series in 2021 with the release of a new reverse design element on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the series. Since 1986, Walking Liberty has been teamed with the heraldic eagle of the United States. By mid-2021, Walking Liberty will be teamed with a new image of a bald eagle in flight as the new design combination for the coin series. These coins mark the last 2021 American Eagle Silver Coins with the original design combinations.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of Walking Liberty. Created by Adolph A. Weinman, this historic design shows Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks from right to left across the design element of the coin. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse side of 2021-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coins is John Mercantis version of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design focuses on the powerful bald eagle with the US shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war in one talon and an olive branch of peace in the other talon. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Silver – One Dollar.

History

Proof American Eagle Silver Coins debuted from the United States Mint in 1986. The coins have been struck, in order, by the San Francisco Mint, Philadelphia Mint, and the West Point Mint. The Denver Mint has never participated in the production of the coins.
