The design was created back in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and was a revolutionary depiction of Liberty at the time. It captures Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks away from the US Capitol Building with a torch held aloft in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The design includes rays of sunshine from the horizon behind Liberty and a ring of 50 stars around her figure. The W mint mark from the West Point Mint is on this side, as well as inscriptions of Liberty and 2021.
Reverse
For the final time in the series, the family of bald eagles designed by Miley Busiek appears on the reverse of 2021-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coins. This image shows a male eagle soaring over the nest as a female guards a hatchling in the nest. History
2021 marks the final use of the original reverse designs on both the American Eagle Silver and American Eagle Gold Coins. By mid-2021, both will be replaced with new interpretations of the American bald eagle.
