The collection, which already offers proof-like and BU specimens, now has a 1/10 oz gold coin with proof-like visuals available alongside the silver options. The 1 oz BU silver coins in the Tokelau Chronos Series are offered with individual protective plastic capsules. With a mintage of 30,000 coins in 2021, the collection boosts its availability compared to 2020 when 20,000 silver coins were struck.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2021 Tokelau Chronos 1 oz Silver Coin comes with a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. In this design, Her Majesty is captured in right-profile relief with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. The effigy was designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and featured on the coins of the Royal Mint of England until 2015. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include 5 DOLLARS, 2021, ELIZABETH II, and TOKELAU. The design element includes an infinity pattern in the background field, clock mechanisms on either side of Her Majesty, and a laurel wreath around the design fields edge.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2021 Tokelau Chronos Silver Coins is a new clock design theme. The 2021 release features ornate hour and minute hands on the clock, with Roman numerals around the edge of the design field. There are also mermaids with anchors within the design field on either side of the hands of the clock. The inscriptions on this side read AG, CHRONOS, and 1 OZ FINE SILVER 9999.
History
The Tokelau Chronos Series started in 2015 with 1 oz silver rounds that feature .999 fineness for the silver. In 2019, the series became a legal tender collection with New Zealand dollars as the face value.
