Obverse
The obverse side of 2021-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coins features a bust of Liberty. The design was created by George T. Morgan with Anna Willess Williams as his model in portrait sessions. The image shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap on her head with the laurel wreath and coronet crowns in her hair. There are 13 stars along the design rim with inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY on the coronet, and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2021-S Morgan Dollar Silver Coins is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This image was also created by Morgan and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR. There is also an S mint mark on this face of the coin.
History
The San Francisco Mint struck the Morgan Dollars from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921 when silver dollar coining resumed after a long hiatus. The only other mint to issue the coins in all these years was the Philadelphia Mint.
