The new design on the 2021 American Eagle Gold Coins reverse field comes from Jennie Norris. A talented artist and outdoor enthusiast, Ms. Norris works and lives in Tucson, Arizona. She is currently a member of the United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program. Her design for the reverse of the American Eagle Gold Coin was chosen from a field of more than 30 competing designs.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2021 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins is the image of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief shows Liberty walking away from the U.S. Capitol Building with rays of sunshine at her back, a torch in her right hand, and an olive branch in her left. The inscriptions on this face read Liberty and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2021 American Eagle Gold Coin features a new bald eagle image. Gone is the family of bald eagles. In its place, there is a stirring depiction of the natural majesty of these powerful aerial predators. The inscriptions on this face include United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Gold – 50 Dollars.

History

The American Eagle Gold Coins had the same design elements from 1986 to early 2021 Type 1 releases. The change in the reverse visual is the first major design refresh in the history of the series.
