History

Voyageurs National Park is set in one of the more unique locales in the United States. The only piece of land within the park is a peninsula that drops down into the northernmost portion of the state of Minnesota from Canada. This piece of land is not accessible by car directly from the United States. One must first drive into Canada and then down to access the peninsula by car. Most visitors use boats or seaplanes in the warmer months, while snowmobiles are a suitable means of access in the winter months when the waterways freeze over.
