Lady Liberty is the iconic female personification of the United States. The box is a simple black box that folds closed and has a velvet lining to house the coin and its protective plastic capsule. The interior of the lid is white with a red-white-and-blue ribbon in the corner. Each folding box ships inside of a United States Mint shipper with a Certificate of Authenticity included as well.
Obverse
On the obverse field of the 2015-W American Liberty 1 oz Gold Coin is a depiction of Lady Liberty wielding her iconic torch and the American flag. This modern depiction of Liberty wears a wreath crown and is in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and the American flag on a pole in her left hand. Liberty is inscribed above her head in large, all-capital letters with In God We Trust inscribed below. The date mark is featured on this side of the coin along with the initials of the designers.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2015-W American Liberty Gold Coins bears the image of a powerful American bald eagle in flight. The eagle glides with its wings flexed and carries an olive branch in its talons. Inscriptions identify the United States of America as the nation of issue and One Hundred Dollars as the face value. Other inscriptions include E Pluribus Unum, 1 oz .9999 Fine Gold, and a W mint mark from the West Point Mint.
History
The 2015 American Liberty 1 oz Gold Coin was the third 24-karat gold bullion coin issued by the United States Mint following the 2006 debut of the American Buffalo Gold Coin and the 2009 High Relief Saint-Gaudens Liberty Gold Coin. However, the 2015 American Liberty Gold Coin is the first US gold coin ever issued with a $100 (USD) face value.
