Dont miss out on your slice of American history with the 2013 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin! It is one of the most sought-after pieces in the world, providing a bit of Americana that is a great investment. Each of these coins is made from 22-karat gold along with small amounts of alloy, which makes the coins harder and less likely to scratch.

Obverse

Stunning Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse of these coins. The image was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens back in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coins, which were minted from 1907 to 1933. In the iconic image, Lady Liberty is walking off the coin as the sun hits her back. In her left hand, she carries an olive brand, while she holds a flaming torch in her right. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Liberty and the year of mint 2013.

Reverse

The reverse image features sculptor Miley Busieks 1986 design of a family of bald eagles. The male, with an olive branch clutched in his talons, comes in land at the family nest. The female and her hatchlings are comfortable inside the next. This image can only be found on American Eagle Gold Coins.

History

The United States Mint launched the American Eagle Coin program in 1986. Options were limited to just gold and silver bullion coins. Today, you can purchase American Eagles in bullion or proof versions across four metal types: gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. The gold coins also come in fractional versions, which are great for those wanting gold on a budget. The designs are different based on the metal type of the coin.
