In the Chinese zodiac, the rooster is a significant symbol among the twelve animal signs. If you were born in the Year of the Rooster, you’re associated with qualities like hard work, punctuality, confidence, and keen observation. This birth year is considered highly auspicious, and now you have the opportunity to own the 2005 Australian Lunar Rooster 1 oz Gold Coin, available for purchase online from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Each coin is thoughtfully encased in its own protective capsule!
  • This coin marks the 10th release in the prestigious Australian Lunar Series I collection!
  • Limited mintage of just 19,729 gold coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of pure .9999 gold.
  • Officially carries a face value of $100 (AUD) by Australia.
  • The obverse side features a regal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse side displays a majestic rooster standing on a mound with the rising sun on the horizon.

In Chinese culture, the rooster symbolizes good fortune and serves as a guardian against negative influences. Its crowing at dawn is believed to dispel evil spirits, making it a protective symbol. In some Chinese traditions, rooster images or sculptures are placed on rooftops or near entrances to homes for this very purpose.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 2005 Lunar Rooster 1 oz Gold Coin features a dignified portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in her fourth-generation bust. She is depicted in right-profile relief, adorned with the elegant Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This exquisite design, crafted by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998, made its debut in 1999 as part of the Lunar Series I program. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2005 Australian Lunar Rooster Gold Coin, you’ll find a captivating depiction of a rooster standing proudly on a mound of earth and grass, heralding the dawn with the sun rising in the distance. Inscriptions here include 2005, 1 OZ 9999 GOLD, and the Chinese symbol for the rooster.

History

The rooster appears in various Chinese folktales and legends. One well-known story is “The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd,” a love story between the celestial weaver girl, represented as Vega, and the cowherd, represented as Altair. In this story, the rooster plays a key role as it crows to signal the time for the couple to reunite across the Milky Way on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month during the Qixi Festival, also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day.

Ordering

These 2005 Australian Lunar Rooster 1 oz Gold Coins come with their individual protective capsules. Despite the initial mintage cap set at 30,000 coins, the final mintage reached just 19,729 coins, making this coin the fifth-highest mintage among 1 oz Gold Lunar Series I coins.
