The 2003 release of the Proof American Eagle Silver Coin was the first in a four-year run of mintage rising mintage figures in this collection. Certified specimens from 2003 are low in number despite the mintage of the collection, especially those coins with a perfect grade and additional labels. Today, you can get the 2003-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin online at Provident Metals in perfect condition.
Mintage figures in the Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver series were falling for most of the 1990s and rose only during the very late 1990s as concerns over Y2K drove investors toward silver. The mintage increase from 2002 to 2003 was just over 100,000 and it marked the first in a four-year series of increases that culminated in 2006 with the second-highest mintage in the collection with 1.092 million coins.
On the obverse is a depiction of Walking Liberty. The 2003-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin has the design of Walking Liberty that Adolph A. Weinman created in 1916. It features Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon holding the branches of oak and laurel in her left hand while her right hand reaches for the sun on the horizon.
The reverse of all 2003-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins comes with the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design has been modified several times by the United States Mint and this particular design was created by John Mercanti in 1986 for this series.
Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins come with mintages that meet the interest of collectors. Originally, the series had mintage caps, but the caps were so high and the mintages rarely hit those caps. As such, the US Mint stopped using mintage caps.
These 2003-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available with a PF70 certification from the NGC. A PF70 coin has full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws. The included UCAM label indicates the coins have contrasting strong, frosted design elements with deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
