In 2000, the Austrian Philharmonic coin series not only started a new decade, but also a new century. Though the 1 oz gold coin, the flagship of the series, would start the new decade and century on a bright note, most of the decade 2000-2009 was marked by record-low demand. Today, you have the chance to own a 2000 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin courtesy of Provident Metals.

  • Arrives with an individual protective flip!
  • 12th date in the Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Series!
  • Limited mintage of just 245,700 gold coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • The face value of 2,000 Schillings is backed by Austria.
  • On the obverse is a view of the Great Pipe Organ.
  • The reverse features a selection of different musical instruments.

The designs of the Austrian Philharmonic Gold Series were created in 1989 by Thomas Pesendorfer. Mr. Pesendorfer is the Chief Engraver of the Austrian Mint and these design elements have been replicated on all weights in the gold series, as well as the 1 oz silver and 1 oz platinum coins.

On the obverse of 2000 Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coins is the image of the Musikverein Pipe Organ. Located inside the Golden Hall, it is a centerpiece of all performances by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Inscriptions include REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2000, and 2,000 SCHILLING.

The reverse design of the 2000 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin comes with a depiction of musical instruments. The field includes a cello, two violins, a bassoon behind the cello, with a French horn, and a harp behind the violins. Inscriptions on this side read only WEINER PHILHARMONIKER.

The 2000 release in this series saw a jump in demand from 230,700 coins in 1999 to 245,700 coins. Though this was a bright start for the new decade and century, it proved to be a false start. Demand slipped by 200,000 coins the next year and remained below 200,000 annually through 2007.

These 2000 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coins are available in individual protective flips. The 2000 date mark is not only notable for its mintage within the 2000-2009 decade, but also for its status as the second-to-last coin with a denomination in Austrian schillings. Starting in 2002, the coins had a new face value based on the Euro denomination.
