Obverse

On the obverse side of 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, there is a portrait of Lady Liberty. Engraver George T. Morgan developed this effigy for the US Mint in 1878 using a teacher named Anna Williams as a model. Youll see inscriptions on the obverse as well reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1883.

Reverse

The reverse of 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Coins contains a heraldic eagle motif in its center. If you look closely, youll see arrows and an olive branch in the birds talons, which are symbols of war and peace. Also included are inscriptions reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, IN GOD WE TRUST. The Carson City mintmark is located on the reverse field as well.

History

As miners flocked to Comstock Lode and made their fortune, the United States government established the Carson City Mint nearby to produce coins from the silver mined nearby. But like all rushes, demand eventually outweighed supply. The silver dried up, and the mint was forced to close its doors in 1899. Luckily, 2.9 million Carson City Morgans were discovered in the 1960s in US Treasury vaults, ensuring that future generations of collectors would have the opportunity to own this historically significant silver coin.
