Some of the most sought-after silver dollars from the Morgan Dollar Series at the 19th-century specimens from the Carson City Mint. While more than a million of these specimens were discovered in Treasury vaults in the 1960s in impressive condition, some never circulated in the first place. The 1881-CC Morgan Dollar was one of the few with a high volume of its original mintage just sitting in the Treasury vaults. Provident Metals now offers certified 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins to you for purchase online.

  • 4th year of availability in the CC-Morgan Dollar Silver Series!
  • Limited initial mintage of just 296,000 coins!
  • Limited number of certified silver coins available!

  • Issued a face value of $1 (USD) by the government of the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 64 from the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • The obverse depicts Lady Liberty.

When you purchase one of these 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online from Provident Metals, you will receive a Mint State 64 coin in a plastic slab. Coins in this condition showcase average mint luster at best, with small clusters of contact marks or one to two heavier marks. Small patches of hairlines are also possible on the coins. Overall, each coin remains quite attractive given its age.

Obverse

The obverse of 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins features an effigy of Lady Liberty. This 1878 design shows Liberty in left-profile relief with the coronet and laurel wreath in her hair, as well as a Phrygian cap on her head. There are 13 stars on the design field and this side includes the inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY on the coronet crown, and 1881.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 1881-CC Morgan Dollars is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States of America. Designed, like the obverse, by George T. Morgan, it features a front-facing bald eagle that clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The bird is flanked by a wreath of oak and laurel that is connected with a ribbon at the bottom. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.

History

From the original mintage of 296,000 coins in 1881, the second-lowest original mintage in the series from Carson City Mint, roughly 49.82% of the coins ended up in the vaults of the US Treasury. A total of 147,485 1881-CC Morgan Dollars were discovered in the vaults of the Treasury in the 1960s and later auctioned to collectors.
