Released with the so-called Barber Coinage, the US half dollar coin design produced from 1892 to 1916 depicted a masculine bust of Liberty on the obverse and a distinctive version of the heraldic eagle of the United States on the reverse. Created by Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, Charles E. Barber, the designs were produced at a time when the US Mint used 90% silver content in its circulation denominations. Right now, you can buy $10 Tube 90% Barber Silver Half Dollars online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a tube of 20 US half-dollar coins from the Barber Coinage Series!
  • Date marks range from 1892 to 1916!
  • Contains .36169 Troy oz of actual silver content.

If you purchase the $10 Tube of 90% Silver Barber Half Dollars in this listing, you will receive all items inside of a plastic tube. To meet the advertised $10 (USD) face value of coins in the tube, there are a total of 20 US half dollars inside. The designs available in this tube come strictly from the Barber Coinage Series and only have date marks between 1892 and 1916. Each individual coin is in circulated condition, so you can expect to see varying degrees of wear and tear.

Obverse

The obverse field of the 90% Silver Barber Half Dollar features a right-profile bust of Liberty. In the portrait, Liberty wears a wreath crown on her head. The date mark and national motto are inscribed on this side of the coin, as are 13 stars representing the original colonies in America.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 90% Silver Barber Half Dollars is the heraldic eagle of the United States. The oldest coin design still in use today, the heraldic eagle created by Barber for this series has a loose cluster of 13 stars above the eagle, arrows in one talon, an olive branch in the other, and the national heraldic shield on the eagles chest.

History

Charles E. Barber served as the 6th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1879 until his death in 1917. He succeeded his father, William Barber, in the role and is the only former Chief Engraver with a series commonly named after him. The Barber Coinage featured the same Liberty bust on the obverse of the dime, quarter, and half dollar from 1892 to 1916.
