US Gold Eagle circulation coins were the last coins in American history to feature gold content in excess of 90% gold. When the Gold Eagle $10 coin was introduced, it had 22-karat gold that consisted of 91.67% gold content in the coins. This was also known as Crown Gold to the English. The Gold Eagle was in circulation when gold content was lowered to 89.92% in 1834 and when it was raised to 90%.
Obverse

The bald eagle has the heraldic shield of the United States on its chest and clutches the olive branch of peace and arrows of war in its talons. Coins produced from 1838 to early 1866 do not have the national motto on the reverse, while those produced from late 1866 to 1907 have In God We Trust.
History
The $10 Gold Eagle coins from the United States Mint were produced with two versions of the Turban Head design from 1795 to 1797 and another from 1797 to 1804. These Liberty Head Gold Eagles marked the return of the coins in 1838 and it was replaced in 1907 by the Indian Head design.
