Obverse

Apollo 11 lifts off for the Moon in the obverse design of 1 oz Silver Apollo 11 Liftoff Rounds. A Saturn V rocket powered the Apollo 11 crew and its craft into space upon launch from Merritt Island, Florida, in July 1969. As the boosters ignite from below, the massive Saturn V rocket begins to lift away from Earth in this design element. The inscriptions include ..6,5,4,3,2,1 All Engines Running, Lift Off, We Have Liftoff and July 16, 1969; 9:32 AM EDT, the latter being the date and time of Apollo 11s successful liftoff.

Reverse

In a replica of the Apollo 11 mission patch, the design on the reverse face of Silver Apollo 11 Liftoff Rounds features a bald eagle landing on the Moon. The Apollo 11 spacecraft featured a specially-designed lunar lander known as the Eagle. The mission patch depicts the eagle landing on the cratered surface of the Moon with an olive branch in its talons. Earth is visible in the distance behind the eagle. The inscriptions on this face read Apollo 11, 1969 – 2019, 50th Anniversary, One Ounce, and .999 Fine Silver, the latter two inscriptions being marked twice around the rim.

History

Apollo 11 and its three-man crew remained in space for eight days. The spacecraft consisted of a command module, service module, and the Eagle lunar lander. The command module was the only piece of the craft to return back to Earth on day eight as the Apollo 11 crew splashed down in the South Pacific.
