History

The Texas longhorn originated in the Iberian Peninsula before being brought over to the Americas beginning in the early 16^th century. These cattle journeyed to the West Indies before arriving in Mexico and eventually Texas. With horns that reach nearly ten feet, the Longhorn is easy to identify among its fellow cattle breeds. In 1995, the longhorn was announced as the official state large mammal of Texas.
