Prior to 1776, the colonies that would eventually form the United States had varying laws in place that allow or permitted women to vote. Many of the colonies allowed women to vote, but after the founding of America, that would change. By 1807, most of the new states had adopted constitutions that denied women the right to vote. It would take more than a century of activism for women to regain the right to vote in America. Provident Metals currently offers a commemorative silver round marking the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment with the sale of 1 oz Silver 19th Amendment 100th Anniversary Rounds from the North American Mint.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 1 oz Silver 19th Amendment 100th Anniversary Round in this listing, the product comes with a protective plastic Air-Tite brand capsule from the North American Mint. Each round is a brand-new product with proof-like visuals such as frosted designs and clear fields. The rounds each have an individual serial number that has been etched onto the edge.
Obverse
The obverse side of 1 oz Silver 19th Amendment 100th Anniversary Rounds bears a portrait of Susan B. Anthony in the center. The 19th Amendment was colloquially known as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment due to her vocal activism and support for the womens suffrage movement in the United States. The North American Mint produced the image of Anthony on this face using its photo-impressive engraving that delivers a photo-quality design to the surface of the silver round.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the 1 oz Silver 19th Amendment 100th Anniversary Round, you will find the text from the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution. There are also inscriptions denoting the 100th anniversary and showcasing the date marks of 1920 and 2020 to celebrate those 100 years.
History
Womens suffrage movements began in earnest after 1848 when the Seneca Falls convention adopted a Declaration of Sentiments that called for equality among the sexes, including the right for women to vote. Western territories and new states in the Union were among the first to call for a new national law securing the right for women to vote, but it wouldnt happen until 1919 when the House and Senate passed what would become the 19th Amendment. Changing the constitution requires a minimum number of states to ratify, and that minimum was reached on August 18, 1920, when Tennessee ratified the amendment. The 19th Amendment was formally adopted on August 26, 1920.
