The Standing Liberty Quarter design from Hermon Atkins MacNeil stands out as the least-beloved coin design from the early-20th century overhaul of American currency. From Saint-Gaudens Liberty on the $20 Gold Double Eagle to the Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollars by Weinman, countless new designs were loved by Americans. Standing Liberty did not enjoy the same reception. Provident Metals currently has 90% Silver Standing Liberty Quarters available to purchase online.
Highlights:
The Standing Liberty design may not have been beloved in its day, but it is valued today by collectors and offers investors value with its 90% silver content. When you purchase the 90% Silver Standing Liberty Quarters in this listing, you receive a bag of four quarters. Each of the quarters comes from the dates 1916 to 1930, the production history for the Standing Liberty Quarter design.
Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee the date marks on the coins you receive in your $1 face value bag. Each of the coins could have the same date mark or all four could have different date marks.
Obverse
The obverse field of the Standing Liberty Quarter features a depiction of Liberty standing in the gap of a wall. MacNeils Liberty design went through three versions in all. The least liked was the original design used in 1916 and most 1917 date marks that left one of Libertys breasts exposed in the design. Later design iterations had chain mail or a metal breastplate on Libertys chest.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 90% Silver Standing Liberty Quarters is a depiction of the American bald eagle. MacNeil also designed this image. It was created to feature the American bald eagle showcasing its majesty as it glides through the air in flight.
History
MacNeils Standing Liberty Quarter design was the sixth in the history of the US Quarter Dollar coin. Prior to the release of the Washington bust in 1932, which remains on the quarter to this day, the longest-running design was the Seated Liberty design in use from 1838 to 1891. Other images included the Barber Coinage from 1892 to 1916, the Capped Bust Liberty from 1815 to 1838, and the Draped Bust Liberty from 1796 to 1807.
