Certified America the Beautiful Coins at Provident Metals

One of the most iconic coin programs from the US Mint is their America the Beautiful Series. This series of silver coinage is 56 coins in total, with each coin displaying a unique state national park, forest, or monument. All 50 states, Washington DC, and 5 US Territories have a coin in this well-known series. For added value, investors and collectors look into certified coins in this collection. Learn more about Certified America the Beautiful Coins right here at Provident Metals.

Background of the Series

The America the Beautiful Series is a collection of 5 oz silver coins that mirrors the famous 50 State Quarters program. Coins in this series are struck in both BU and burnished versions, with colorized and proof coins also being available as part of sets.

The series released 5 unique coins every year as the series ran from 2010 to 2021. All 50 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, and the South Virgin Islands are all represented in this series. Each issue is inspired by a state or territory national park, forest, area, or historic site.

Designs in the Series

Every Certified America the Beautiful Coin at Provident Metals will have the same obverse design. This obverse design features a left-profile relief image of George Washington, the country’s first president. While the design is based on a 1786 bust of the president, John Flanagan updated the design for the release of the 1932 Washington Quarter.

The reverse of each coin was decided through a collaborative effort between the US Mint, the chief executive of each jurisdiction, the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Secretary of the Interior. Each state governor submitted four locations in order of preference, along with some honorable mentions. The Secretary of the Treasury then determined the location that would be used based on several factors.

Certification Process

Certified America the Beautiful Coins at Provident Metals will be graded by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). The certification process is relatively similar no matter which coin-grading service you choose. Coins are received by the provider, where they are then graded by at least two numismatists. Coins are then encapsulated and returned to the original owner.

Certified America the Beautiful Coins have unique terminology that the NGC and the PCGS use to describe these coins. The terms that apply to these coins are the following.

  • PL: Proof-like. This term is used to describe a coin that looks like it has proof visuals.
  • DM: Deeply mirrored. This term is used to describe the coin’s background field.
  • DMPL: A combination of the two previous terms. Identifies coins that are proof-like and have a mirrored background.
