Proof American Eagle Silver Coins are only available in a 1 oz weight. These coins have a face value of $1 (USD) and contain 1 Troy oz. of .999 pure silver. These coins were introduced in 1986 alongside their BU counterpart. They have been released annually except for 2009 due to economic uncertainty.
A total of three US Mint branches have struck coins in this series. From 1986 to 1992 the San Francisco Mint produced these coins. The Philadelphia Mint then took over from 1993 to 2000. The West Point Mint has been striking these coins since 2001.
