Obverse

The obverse side of the Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin shows an effigy of Lady Liberty. Known as the Liberty Head design, it was created by Christian Gobrecht in 1838 to replace the Classic Head Liberty design and featured on the coins through early 1908. The field includes Liberty wearing a coronet with 13 stars around her figure and a date mark below.

Reverse

History

The Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin is a unique specimen in the US Eagle Series. Specimens from the Charlotte Mint and Dahlonega Mint used gold sourced from deposits along the East Coast from the Carolinas down to Georgia. This gold had naturally higher levels of silver content, resulting in what has been termed green gold coloration for the coins.
