With your purchase of Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins in this product listing, you receive a gold coin with a protective plastic slab from the NGC. Most of the flaws are, however, located outside the primary focal points.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin is a depiction of Lady Liberty. Known as the Coronet Head, or just Liberty Head, this design was created in 1839 by Christian Gobrecht for use on all denominations of the US Eagle and remains the longest-used design in the history of the coins as it featured on all coins from 1839 until 1907/1908 when the designs were replaced by modern images. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include only a date mark with 13 stars around the bust of Liberty.

Reverse

The reverse face of Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins includes a design that was also created by Gobrecht. This version is one of the early designs of the heraldic eagle of the United States. It features the bald eagle in front-facing relief with a shield on its chest, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other. Inscriptions on the reverse of all coins in this series include United States of America and Ten D.

History

The $10 Eagle from the United States Mint features 90% gold content with 10% copper as the balance metal in the coins. From 1839 to 1865, the coins were issued without the national motto on the reverse field. Following the Civil War, a banner was added to the coins above the eagles head with In God We Trust inscribed on it.
