With their unique designs featuring a balancing scale and a historic coin press, these silver Onzas serve as a nice tribute to the historic Mexican Mint. Provident Metals now has 1 oz Mexican Silver Onza Balance Scale Coins available to purchase online.

  • A vintage coin press is depicted on the obverse.
  • A set of balancing scales features in the reverse design.

These Mexican Silver Onza Balance Scale Coins can be ordered at the click of a mouse and delivered right to your door. Provident Metals fully insures your order while in transit and delivers using inconspicuous packaging. Upon arrival, you will find your coin housed in a plastic flip. Please note that these coins are in AU+ condition. At least half of their original luster will be present, though you may see some wear and tear on the highest points of the devices.

Obverse

An old-fashioned coin press is featured on the obverse of 1 oz Mexican Onza Balance Scale Coins. Through the rotation of an upper pole with weight on either side, the device could pick up enough speed to spiral down and strike the coin. This device was later rendered obsolete by the advent of steam and electric-powered machinery. You will find inscriptions on the obverse that read CASA DE MONEDA DE MEXICO.

Reverse

A traditional balancing scale is found on the reverse side of 1 oz Mexican Silver Onzas. Back in the day you might have seen this used to compare the weights of coins or to weigh out silver before minting began. Inscriptions are shown on the reverse as well that read UNA ONZA TROY DE PLATA PURA LEY .925 PESO 33.625 GRAMOS.

History

The Mexican Mint has a long and storied past dating all the way back to 1535. Some of its most influential productions include the Spanish Dollar and the Mexican Peso. These coins would prove to be influential in the creation of coins like the US Dollar and Chinese Yuan. Today, the mint produces coinage for the Bank of Mexico and also attracts considerable attention for its iconic Mexican Libertad coin program issued on an annual basis.
