The Mexican Mint introduced the Mexican Libertad silver coins in 1982 with just a 1 oz coin available. Over the course of the next 26 years, an additional seven options would be added to the series. Four fractional-weight coins arrived in 1991, followed by 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins in 1996. These Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins debuted in 2008.

Obverse

Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins have Winged Victory on the obverse side. The primary image of Winged Victory featured here is inspired by the statue of Victory depicted atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The column and statue were constructed in 1921 to mark 100 years of independence for the nation of Mexico.

Reverse

For the reverse of Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins, there are various design elements. The primary focus is the modern coat of arms for Mexico. This includes a golden eagle on the arm of a cactus as it uses its talons and beak to fight a serpent. The seal is surrounded by Estados Unidos Mexicanos above and a wreath below. Around this central image are 10 different versions of the same seal used by the Mexican government dating back to its independence in the 1820s.

History

Mexican Libertad 1 Kilo Silver Coins debuted in 2008 and have typically had the lowest mintage figures in the series. The highest mintage figure reported to date was 6,000 coins in 2011, while the lowest mintage was 200 set in 2017 and 2019. There were not 1 Kilo coins sold in 2013 or 2014.
