The voyage of the Mayflower was one of the more unique expeditions to the New World by European explorers. Rather than seeking out new lands for the riches and wealth of a distant monarch, the Puritans aboard the Mayflower were seeking religious freedom and the chance to form a new order in human civilization. After two months at sea, the Puritans aboard the Mayflower landed off the coast of Massachusetts. Right now, you can buy 2020 Reverse Proof American 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage 1/4 oz Gold Coins online from Provident Metals.

Obverse

The obverse side of 2020 Reverse Proof American Mayflower Voyage 1/4 oz Gold Coins includes a family of Wampanoag indigenous figures. The family of three is shown near the shoreline, with the father looking out to sea with caution as his young child points out toward the Mayflower on the horizon. The mother is seated nearby. Inscriptions on the coin include E Pluribus Unum, Patuxet, and $10.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 2020 Reverse Proof American 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage 1/4 oz Gold Coins are a male and female pilgrim. The two figures are shown in a slight-side-profile design with each gazing toward the horizon, no doubt wondering what awaits them onshore in the New World. The design field includes inscriptions of 1620 Plymouth 2020, In God We Trust, and United States of America.

History

The Mayflower set sail from the south of England in September 1620. The original destination of the Mayflower was actually the existing Virginia colony in the mid-Atlantic region of the Eastern seaboard. However, a delay in departing England and bad weather during the journey resulted in the ship arriving in New England. Lacking supplies, the Puritans decided to stay put in the north and found a new colony there.
