President Trump survived with a wound to his right ear, thanks to a last-second turn of his head. This event places him among other American political figures who have faced violence. President Trump is the fourth candidate to experience an assassination attempt.
The third US President assassinated, William McKinley, was shot on September 6, 1901, by anarchist Leon Czolgosz at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. McKinley died eight days later. This assassination resulted in increased Secret Service protection for presidents and a crackdown on anarchist groups in the United States.
