Obverse

Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins feature the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Since the introduction of the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin in 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint has gone through three different depictions of the Queen. From 1979 to 1989, the coins had Arnold Machins second-generation Canadian depiction of the Queen. From 1990 to 2002, the coins included the third-generation design from Dora de Pedery-Hunt. Coins dated 2003 and later have the Susanna Blunt design that is the latest effigy of Her Majesty.

Reverse

On the reverse of Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins, you will find the image of the sugar maple leaf. The design on this side has remained constant throughout the history of the coin program. Included here is Walter Otts 1979 depiction of the maple leaf, the official emblem of the nation of Canada.

History

Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins were introduced in 1979 with only a 1 oz coin available in .999 pure gold content. Starting in late 1982, the metallic content was increased to .9999 and has remained that way to date.
