The obverse side of Burnished American Eagle Gold Coins comes with an effigy of Lady Liberty. Created in 1907, this vision shows Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks forward with the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet in the background, a torch in her right hand, and an olive branch in her left. There are sun rays in the background field and a ring of 50 stars on this side.

On the reverse field of Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins, you will find a depiction of the American bald eagle. From 1986 to mid-2021, the US Mint used Miley Busieks depiction of a family of bald eagles. In mid-2021, a new depiction of the American bald eagle from Jennie Norris features on the coins.

From 2006 to 2008, the US Mint issued the Burnished American Eagle Gold Coins in the traditional 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold weights. The series was suspended in 2009 and 2010, but returned in 2011. When it did, there was only the 1 oz gold coins available.
