Philharmonic Gold Coins were debuted in 1989 by the Austrian Mint. During the original debut, there were only two gold weights released: 1 oz and 1/4 oz. New additions were created at three different points in time. The first new release was the 1/10 oz gold coin, and it was added to the series in 1991. In 1994, the 1/2 oz gold coin was released. The 1/25 oz gold coins were added to the series in 2014.

Each coin in this listing will ship from our secure facility in plastic flips. Ordering from this listing means you can receive coins from various years. We cant guarantee that you will get coins from different years, but the coins will all be in good condition.

Obverse

The obverse image on the Philharmonic Gold Coins is that of the Great Pipe Organ, which sits within the Musikverein. The Musikverein is a concert hall in Vienne, Austria, that is said to have some of the best acoustics in the world for orchestras. The organ was originally built and installed in 1907. Its most recent renovation and modification was in 2011.

Reverse

The reverse face of these coins features numerous musical instruments that are found in orchestras. The eight instruments on this face are a large cello, four violins, a harp, a Vienna horn, and a bassoon.

History

The Austrian Mint was founded in 1194 by Duke Leopold V. He purchased the mint with 15 tonnes of silver that he received as ransom for King Richard I of England. It is the official sovereign mint of the Republic of Austria.
