Obverse

On the obverse side of the Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Always shown in right-profile relief, the Queen is found on 2016 and 2017 coins in the 1998 effigy from Ian Rank-Broadley. The coins issued from 2018 onward have the 2015 design from Jody Clark that depicts the Queen at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown.

Reverse

The reverse face of Australian Kangaroo Silver Coins includes the image of a leaping kangaroo. In this design, the kangaroo is leaping from right to left across the coin in left-profile relief. The design is loosely based on the 1930s-era copper penny design that was popular in circulation in Australia in the 20th century.

History

The Perth Mint issues a number of different annual-release silver bullion coins. The Australian Kookaburra is the oldest having been introduced in 1990. The Australian Koala was introduced in 2007 and followed by the Australian Wedge Tail Eagle in 2014. The Australian Kangaroo was the fourth series with its 2016 debut.
