Designed by mint chief sculptor-engraver John R. Sinnock, the obverse features a profile view of Benjamin Franklin. The portrait is based on an 18th-century bust by sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon. Franklin was an American printer, scientist, inventor, and diplomat.
The reverse showcases the Liberty Bell, based on a sketch by John Frederick Lewis. It represents the city of Philadelphia and the birth of the nation.
Early American coinage depicted figures from symbolism and allegory, like Lady Liberty for example. In 1948, American coinage faced a significant change when coins started depicting actual Americans instead. The artistic “golden era” had come to an end as history replaced imagery at the US Mint.
This change began with the introduction of the Franklin Half Dollar. Despite their popularity, these coins had a short production run due to the decision by Congress in late 1963 to issue a new half dollar to memorialize the martyred president.
Your order will include a randomized date, ranging from 1948 to 1963, depending on our current inventory. Coins may show signs of aging and wear, but the year of issue will be decipherable.

" I ordered two Franklin Half Dollars and was not disappointed: got a 1960 Denver and a 1951 San Francisco. Both well-circulated but still in good condition. Valuable pieces of history!"

" Both were in decent circulated condition with very readable dates in the 50s and 60s. One had a bit of discoloration. Got what I ordered, and was pleased to be able to order old silver coins in $1 FV quantities. Shipping was very fast. Wish I could pay by e-check, but pleased with my order, $9 FV in various denominations of silver coins."
