Obverse
The obverse design on this Silver Buddhist Stele of Amitabha Bar features Amitabha Buddha along with other Buddhas and spiritual figures. The image is a replica of one found on an ancient stele, though the details have been cleaned up and enhanced some to create the bar. For example, the faces of some of the figures and other raised details on the original are worn away due to exposure to elements and time. That’s not the case on the silver bar.

Reverse
The reverse of the bar depicts 20 Buddhas in rows of five. Special care has been taken to emulate the original artifact from which these images were copied. The edges of the bar are designed to look like they’ve worn away, and one corner appears to be missing. Superficial cracks appear in the surface to replicate those that are on the ancient stele. None of these factor into the integrity of the silver bar; they’re all cosmetic. Along with the antique finish, they’re designed to make the bar look as much like the stele as possible.

History
The Buddhist Stele of Amitahha was discovered in the Biamsa Temple. The temple, which is now a tourist and spiritual attraction in Sejong City, is an ancient site. It’s believed to have been built by Great Master Doseon, and it has received rebuilds and renovations through the years. The exact origins and history of the site are undetermined. The stele itself is believed to have been erected around 689 AD.
