Walking Liberty is one of the most beloved coin designs in American history. Introduced in 1916 by the United States Mint, the image from Adolph A. Weinman appeared in circulation on the US Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947. Featuring 90% silver, the coins from circulation are an easy and affordable option for investors looking to boost silver holdings in bulk. Right now, you can get $500 Face Value lots of 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of a $500 Face Value lot of 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars, you receive a plastic bag with 1,000 US Half Dollars. The coins in this listing are available with 90% silver content and 10% copper for greater durability in circulation. The date marks in this bag range from 1916 to 1947 and you are likely to find a number of different date marks as a result.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars is the image of Liberty in left-profile relief. The image depicts Liberty walking from right to left across the design field with her right hand outstretched toward the sun on the horizon as her left hand holds branches of oak and laurel. The American flag is draped over her shoulders as she walks. Inscriptions include Liberty, In God We Trust, and the date mark. Just under the national motto, you will find mint marks from the Denver Mint and San Francisco Mint. Philadelphia Mint specimens do not have a mint mark.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars come with a depiction of an American bald eagle. The eagle shown here is preparing to rise up into the air from its mountaintop perch with its wings flexed back behind its figure. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Half-Dollar.
History
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar remains one of the most popular in American history. It replaced the Barber Coinage Liberty bust and was replaced in 1948 by the Benjamin Franklin design for the half dollar. Today, you can also find the Walking Liberty design on the annual American Eagle Silver bullion coin from the US Mint and a commemorative 2016 24-karat gold coin that marked the 100th anniversary of its initial release.
