Obverse

The obverse side of the 90% Silver Franklin Half Dollar coin comes with a right-profile portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The Founding Father was not only a critical media voice in support of American independence in colonial papers, he also went on to serve as an American diplomat in Europe trying to drum up support for the American cause among Britains European enemies. His portrait is included along with inscriptions of Liberty, In God We Trust, and the date mark of the coin.

Reverse

On the reverse face of 90% Silver Franklin Half Dollars is the image of the Liberty Bell in the center of the design field. To the lower right, you will notice a heraldic eagle design element. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Half Dollar.

History

Silver Franklin Half Dollar coins were produced by the Denver Mint, San Francisco Mint, and Philadelphia Mint. Though the latter did not put mint marks on its coins, the D and S of the other two mints were visible above the Liberty Bell in the reverse design. The Franklin Half Dollar design was replaced in production starting in 1964 to honor the recently assassinated President John F. Kennedy on the half dollar.
