The coins will be housed inside of protective plastic flips. Most of the coins you will receive in this listing come with date marks of 1985 or 1986, two of the only years this particular denomination was believed to have been used on Mexican Mint commemorative gold coins.

Obverse

The obverse face of the 250 Peso Mexican Gold Coin includes the Mexican coat of arms. This seal includes the image of a Mexican golden eagle battling with a serpent on the arm of a cactus. The words Estados Unidos Mexicanos are engraved above the seal, while a wreath offers a frame below the seal to create a singular image.

Reverse

Among the known 250 Peso Mexican Gold Coin reverse designs, you will find those representing Mexicos status as the host of the 1986 FIFA World Cup. The 1986 dated coins had images of a soccer ball near a wall that was artistically decorated with Ancient Aztec symbols. A 1985 date coin combines a celebration of the upcoming 1986 FIFA World Cup and the 450th anniversary of the founding of the Mexican Mint.

History

The Mexican Mint is the oldest operating mint facility in the Western Hemisphere. Founded in 1535 by Spanish Conquistadors, the Mexican Mint once struck colonial currency for Spanish territorial possessions throughout the Western Hemisphere and Pacific Ocean. Today, it is the sovereign mint of Mexico and provides coining capacity for the Mexican government and Banco de Mexico.
