The Perth Mint’s Lunar Series Coins have been a favorite among collectors and investors since their debut in 1996. This series features a variety of gold and silver coins, each highlighting a different animal from the Zodiac. The Lunar Series III, launched in 2020, introduced platinum coins to the series. Each 2025 Australian Lunar Snake 1 oz Platinum Coin is offered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and comes in a protective plastic capsule. This coin is among the first in the Lunar Series to feature King Charles III.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2025 Australian Lunar Snake Platinum Coin features King Charles III, marking the first appearance of His Majesty on these coins. This design, created by Dan Thorne, is a significant shift from the previous portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. It shows King Charles III in a left-profile relief, without a crown. The inscriptions read CHARLES III, AUSTRALIA, 1 OZ 9995 PT, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2025 Lunar Snake 1 oz Platinum Coins, Sean Rogers’ design depicts a snake coiled around bamboo branches, with bamboo leaves overhead. This detailed image adds a natural element to the coins design. The inscriptions include SNAKE, 2025, the P mint mark, and the Chinese emblem for the snake.
History
The Lunar Series highlights the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac, reflecting their cultural significance and the traits they represent. The Year of the Snake is one of these animals, known for its unique attributes in Chinese tradition.
