The Monetary Authority of Singapore celebrates the turn of the Chinese New Year with coins from the Chinese Almanac Coin series. The fourth such series began in 2017, and its seventh issue pays tribute to the Year of the Rabbit, a sign traditionally associated with open and expansive personalities who bring positive energy to their interactions with others and are notable for their commitments to justice and fairness. The two pieces in the 2023 Proof Singapore Year of the Rabbit Silver Coin Set feature a gracefully shaped design and a proof-quality finish, showcasing dazzling mirrored backgrounds. The set ships in a custom silver case with red lining and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each set has a 1 oz proof coin and a 1 oz colorized proof coin.

Obverse & Reverse

Both coins in this set have obverse sides featuring Singapore’s official Coat of Arms, accompanied by inscriptions of the country’s name in four different languages and the year “2023.” The reverse sides feature a Rabbit — fully colorized on the second piece — with Singapore’s East Coast Park appearing in the background, accompanied by inscriptions of the face value and silver contents.

History

Planned to run until the year 2028, Singapore’s Fourth Chinese Almanac Coin Series combines beautiful artwork of the successive signs of the Chinese zodiac with elegantly engraved representations of the country’s best-known landmarks. A half dozen such landmarks have thus appeared in the prior issues in the series, among them the Singapore Botanic Gardens — a historic treasure dating back to 1859, and Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site — and the Haw Par Villa cultural park. The Year of the Rabbit’s featured site is East Coast Park, one of the country’s most famous park getaways.
