In the Tudor Beasts Series, the Royal Mint celebrates 10 heraldic beasts used in the symbolism of the House of Tudor. Formed in 1485 by Henry Tudor, the future King Henry VII, the Tudors would rule England until 1603 with famous monarchs like the radical King Henry VIII and the dutiful, elegant, and progressive Queen Elizabeth.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2023 Proof British Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort 1 oz Silver Coins, you will find a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. This design shows the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Her Majesty is captured here in a 2015 design from Jody Clark that shows the Queen at the age of 89. Inscriptions on this face include 2 POUNDS, 2023, ELIZABETH II, and D.G. REG F.D.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 2023 Proof Tudor Beasts Yale of Beaufort Silver Coin comes with an image of the Yale of Beaufort. This design shows the Yale supporting a shield with the Arms of Jane Seymour, the third wife of King Henry VIII. Inscriptions on this field of the coin read YALE OF BEAUFORT and 2023.
History
The Yale of Beaufort appears in Royal Mint coinage for the second time in recent years. This symbol of strong defense was first featured in the Queens Beasts Series which was produced from 2016 to 2021.
