One of the few platinum bullion coins issued on an annual basis is the Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Platinum Coin. Introduced in 1988, it was also one of the earliest platinum bullion coins behind those issued by the former Soviet Union and Australian Platypus coins from Perth Mint. When the Royal Canadian Mint debuted the Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coin in 1988, it was released for the first time alongside another debutant from the mint: the Canadian Maple Leaf Silver Coin. Initially, Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coins were available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz weights, eventually growing to 1/20 oz as well. The last release of fractional-ounce platinum in this series came in 2002.
Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of 2023 Maple Leaf 1 oz Platinum Coins. This fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty appears for the final time as the Royal Canadian Mint will later issue 2023 Maple Leafs with a new King Charles III portrait. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 2023.
Reverse
The sugar maple leaf features on the reverse of 2023 Canadian Maple Leaf Platinum Coins. This design from Walter Ott was created in 1979 and remains static on the reverse of these coins each year since that debut. It is accompanied by a laser-engraved maple leaf privy mark and inscriptions of CANADA, 9995, FINE PLATINUM, 1 OZ, and PLATINE PUR.
History
Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Platinum Coins were not issued by the mint in 2000 or 2001, and not between 2003 and 2008 either. Since 2009, the series has offered only 1 oz platinum coins.

2023 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Platinum Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins arrive in either individual flips or acrylic tubes of 10 coins.
