Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins historically offered four weights. After issuing only 1 oz coins in 1990 and 1991, Perth Mint introduced 10 oz, 2 oz, and 1 Kilo coins to the series in 1992. These weights continued alongside the 1 oz coin until 2009. In 2010, the 2 oz coin was canceled and the series continued with its three current weights.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 2023 Kookaburra 1 oz Silver Coins, you will find an effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is shown here in right-profile relief at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH, AUSTRALIA, and 1 DOLLAR.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2023 Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin comes with a depiction of two kookaburras. This years design shows a waratah plant filling the field with two kookaburras perched on the branches of the native plant. Inscriptions include 2023 1 OZ 9999 SILVER, KOOKABURRA, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.

History

The 2023 Australian Kookaburra is the final coin in this series to feature Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. With her passing in September 2022, new portraits of King Charles III will eventually come to Perth Mint coinage.
