Throughout the history of the Australian Kangaroo Gold Series, the Perth Mint has only featured Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy on the obverse. The current design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and is the sixth to feature on the coins. With the Queens passing in September 2022, this design is also the last.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Kangaroo 1 oz Gold Coin, you will find a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here for the final time in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem. Inscriptions on this side include the memorial 1952-2022 dates, as well as ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2023 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coins features a powerful kangaroo. This design shows foliage in the background as the kangaroo is depicted in a seated position in the foreground. Inscriptions include 2023 1 OZ 9999 GOLD, KANGAROO, and the P mint mark of the Perth Mint.
History
The 2023 Australian Kangaroo is the last to feature Queen Elizabeth II as a new King Charles III portrait is in development for Perth Mint. These coins are individually sealed and can be authenticated using the MintID app. Free to download and use, the MintID app does not require any sensitive personal information.

2023 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Gold Coins are packaged in MintID CertiCards and can be authenticated through the MintID app. Each coin has its own cloud-based profile secured with AES-128-bit encryption.
